A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO THE SIVS PROCESS

"How do I apply for Club rego" is one of the most common questions we receive here at the Club. Fortunately, applying for the Special Interest Vehicle Scheme Concession [SIVS], aka Club rego, is actually a fairly easy process to complete. There is a lot of information online at the TMR website but it's explained in a formal, legalese-style which isn't always helpful. Unfortunately, it's also made more difficult through bad advice from confused, self-appointed 'experts' within the classic car community who really should know the process inside-and-out.

The Qld HD & HR Holden Club Inc. has compiled this step-by-step guide to applying for SIVS registration. It is by no means exhaustive and doesn't cover every possible scenario applicants may face, but it does address the most common pathway/s upon which we've provided advice.

NOTE: this guide is a live document - it will be updated as required.

STEP 1: Roadworthy. If your car is already fully registered in your name, you won't need it. Similarly, if you've just bought it fully registered, it will already have a Safety Certificate [RWC] provided by the seller. But, in the event you bought it unregistered; or, it has been laid-up unregistered for any period of time, you will need to get a Queensland Safety Certificate from an authorised agent. The certificate may come as a handwritten paper form, or as an electronic form.
This step is standard for all Change of Rego applications.

STEP 2: (optional): If your classic car has been modified in any way, there is a good chance you are going to need a Certificate of Vehicle Modifications. This is provided following an inspection by an approved person and may also result in your vehicle needing to be fitted with a modification 'Blue' plate. Modifications previously approved interstate will also need to be inspected and approved for registration in Queensland.
This step is standard for all Change of Rego applications.

STEP 3: Complete TMR form F3518_CFD.pdf Vehicle Registration Application.
This step is standard for all Change of Rego applications.

STEP 4: Join an incorporated, enthusiast vehicle Club that supports SIVS applications. The Club will provide you with a letter proving current membership - membership cards are NOT acceptable. The letter must be written on Club letterhead containing the Club's details; signed by a Club official; and, include details of your vehicle (e.g. Make, model, year, chassis number).
This step is required only for the SIVS application.

STEP 5: In Queensland, SIVS provides a concession to registration for vehicles that were manufactured more than 30-years prior, therefore you may need documented proof of the age of your classic car. If your vehicle is already registered, you should be able to skip this step as TMR will have a record of its age already on their system. If unregistered, or transferring from interstate, you will need to get your Club to supply a Dating Certificate. The Qld HD & HR Holden Club Inc. charges an admin fee of $20.00 for Dating Certificates. It may prove worthwhile calling TMR's Customer Service [13 23 80] with your vehicle's details and ask if one is necessary prior to attending in person.
This step is required only for the SIVS application.

STEP 6: Complete TMR form F5392_CFD.pdf Special Interest Vehicle Registration Concession Application.
This step is required only for the SIVS application.

STEP 7: (optional): If you are putting PPQ/personalised plates on your SIVS registered vehicle, you will need to complete TMR form F2964_CFD.pdf Remove and/or Attach personalise/Customised Number Plate/s Application and take this with the actual plates along with you on STEP 7.
This step is a standard option for all Change of Rego applications.

STEP 8: Take all of the paperwork generated through the previous 6 steps to a TMR Customer Service Centre and register your car. You do not have to take your classic vehicle with you to the Transport office. You can not complete this process online if you are applying for the SIVS concessional registration.

CONGRATULATIONS! IF YOU'VE REACHED THIS LINE YOUR CAR SHOULD NOW BE ON CLUB REGO.
